Montreal-based indie art rock band Braids announced today their new album Shadow Offering will release on April 24, 2020 via Secret City Records.
Produced by Chris Walla of Death Cab For Cutie, the new album finds the band at their most personal, unabashedly flexing a new sense of confidence through songs that reach a higher level of artistry and collaboration.
Today they shared their lead single and video “Young Buck,” which is an effervescent ode to impossible love that exudes an undeniable magnetism.
There is a certain warmness when looking at the album cover of Emilie Kahn‘s Outro.
The Montreal artist released the long awaited second album after a three year hiatus.
Emilie didn’t ditched Ogden (her harp) but still played a big role on Outro.
The album was produced in collaboration with Warren C. Spicer of Plants and Animals, shows a craftswoman come into her own.
‘Outro’ is a pained look back at the past as Kahn pores over every misplaced feeling and bad call.
Teeming with adulthood’s melancholy, Kahn offers indie pop crafted with a miniaturist hand toward intimacy, while still reaching for the grandiosity of the genre’s icons.
One of my favorite albums to come out so far in 2019.
Overall there is a wonderful and beautiful soundscapes mixing synths and instruments like the harp.
Something about the beginning track Swimmer which is elegant and tragic at the same time.
Other great tracks that shows how she is taking chances are Three, Will You? (Who will take of you when you get older) and Never Good Enough (where she drops the s-bomb).
- Will You?
Today, Emilie Kahn dropped the lovely music video for Will You?
The second single from the upcoming album Outro which will be available everywhere February 22nd via Secret City Records.
About the music video:
“For the ‘Will You?’ video, we wanted to highlight Emilie’s performance while exploring the dark but tender feeling of the song,” explain directors Aaliyeh Afshar amd Max Taeuschel, “Playing with the mirror, blinds and faux walls, we wanted to delve into the liminal divide between life and death in a physical way”.
Wilsen is a Brooklyn trio led by singer/songwriter Tamsin Wilson, Drew Arndt on bass and Johnny Simon on guitar.
Their debut album I Go Missing In My Sleep drops on April 28, 2017 via Secret City Records.
Listen to this lovely track called Final.
Reminder that Wilsen will be playing Ottawa/Hull on April 26th at Minotaure.
Leif Vollebekk releases the second single from his upcoming album Twin Solitude which comes out on February 24, 2017 via Secret City Records.
“Into The Ether” which came to be whilst playing piano. “The track features passionate Broken Social Scene-adjacent melodies wrapped in a casual, jammy atmosphere. Vollebekk sighs fragmented musings on the space between love and disappointment as Chargaux, the duo who played strings on Kendrick Lamar’s “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe,” produce tense pulls of their bows.”
Reminder that Leif Vollebekk will be playing Ottawa on April 14th at the First Baptist Church.

Today Leif Vollebekk releases the music video “Elegy” from his upcoming album Twin Solitude which comes out on February 24, 2017 via Secret City Records.
Directed by Kaveh Nabatian.
“Elegy” is a bedside soliloquy, of love slipping through fingers and came to Leif while he was riding his bike through Montreal.
