The record’s title track, “Behind the Bars,” was a song that came surprisingly naturally. When Mute Choir wrote the lyrics, he often create a character in his head that’s tied to a situation or a conflict, usually relating to some kind of emotion that he was feeling at that time. With this in mind, he thought it would be interesting to write a song from the point of view of a guy in jail whose wife never visits him, in an attempt to explore the thought process and emotions of someone who is experiencing that sort of isolation and loneliness.
